Out For Lunch

Last Sunday we took a trip to a small village to the east of where we live to meet up with some friends for lunch, they recommended a great Taverna on the beach where all the local Greek people go which is always a sign that the food is good!
The place was filling up quickly as we arrived but the service was very good and we had our table and the waiter had taken our order within a few minutes. There were six of us and we had 2 Greek salads, 2 plates of fava beans with onions and bread as starters, and we had some of the local wine.
Next came our main course which was lamb cooked very slow in the oven and potatoes which are cooked again in the oven with olive oil and lemon, the meat was so tender it just fell off the bone.

We were so full up we did not think we could eat anything else but after our plates were cleared away they brought to the table a variety of fruit, cheese pies with honey, caramelized orange fruits plus of course the Cretan spirit Raki, these are always given free at the end of any meal.

We had such a wonderful time, good company and great food, we enjoy spending time with Greek people who certainly know how to enjoy their food.

Thanks for reading
Pauline
